What We Do

The Gretna Public Schools Foundation is committed to supporting educational opportunities that inspire learning, enrich teaching, and maximize innovative opportunities for all students and educators within the Gretna Public Schools district.

  • In 2023, The Gretna Public Schools Foundation dispersed over $60,000 in local scholarships to 60 graduating seniors.

  • The Foundation gave approximately $40,000 in classroom grants throughout this past year. The classroom grants program provides funding to support innovative classroom activities, improve student learning, and provide new and different educational experiences for students.

  • The PTOs at all seven of the GPS elementary schools hosted Fun Runs and raised a total of over $98,000!  Donations go directly back into the schools to support initiatives and programming for students and staff.

  • The Foundation worked with District leadership to create booster clubs supported by both high schools. We then hosted our first booster led event - The Booster Bash. This was a collaborative effort between the Gretna Dragons Booster Club and Gretna East Griffins Booster Club and encouraged community engagement and support of student activities.

  • The Gretna Public Schools Foundation provides a grant for qualified high school teachers to earn their Master's degree and then teach Dual Credit classes at Gretna High and Gretna East. This gives our GPS students the opportunity to graduate with most of their general studies courses completed. This eases the burden of loans or debt to students going on to college.

  • The Foundation partnered with MCL Construction and awarded our first ever Educational Excellence Awards to 15 deserving Gretna Public Schools teachers and staff.

  • The Foundation oversees Gretna Kids Connection which provides affordable before - and after - school care for children within the Gretna Public School District, as well as a summer care program. Gretna Kids Connection has on average 75 staff in 5 buildings throughout the District.

The Gretna Public Schools Foundation aims to foster an environment of academic excellence and to enrich the educational experiences for students in Gretna Public Schools. To carry out this mission, the Gretna Public Schools Foundation seeks private and corporate contributions and gifts.
